Google backup and restore

By default, Google is the preferred search engine for Android devices and generally Google products sync perfectly with the Android operating system. As you make use of your Android device, it is possible to willingly and unwillingly delete an item on your Android device and need it later. Because of the instant sync setting, the data deleted on Android devices is also deleted from the user’s web account. While losing some data from your Android device may not be devastating, there are instances when you lose crucial data such as a contact or business file. Worse still, is the possibility that your Android device may at one time be completely wiped out.

Fortunately, Google has backup services in place for such disasters. It is important to bear in mind that these backups are not perfect. Even so, they offer the users a bit of security should anything happen.

Google backup and restore – Google contacts backup

Google contacts come with an easy to use backup option. What Google contact backup allows the user to do is restore their contacts exactly as they were at the time of the loss. Therefore, in case the user accidentally deletes a contact from their contacts, restoring is only a few clicks away.

To restore lost contacts:

  1. Navigate and login to your Gmail account and go to Google contacts.
  2. Go to the ‘more’ tab and find the ‘restore contact’ option.
  3. From the pop-up window, there are a number of options to choose from. These options allow you to restore the contact as it was ten minutes ago or 30 days ago, and many more time options. Choose your most preferred restoring time.

Once the contact is restored to your Google contacts, it will automatically sync with your Android phone.

Google backup and restore – Backing up information

One of the hardest tasks you can undertake is trying to get things back as they were arranged in your Android device after you reset the device. For different reasons, one might need to completely erase data from the Android device or the data may accidentally be erased.

When this happens, the first thing you should do is login into your Google account. If you have allowed Google to automatically save your information and settings since when you first got the device, you will be able to get the information from your Google account.

If you have not yet set your account to back up your data, you can do so from your mobile device’s settings tab under privacy options where you find ‘back up my data’ option.
