Google has come up with a free utility known as Google Takeout. All you are required to do is search for “Google Takeout” in Google Apps, click on the link and you will be redirected to a page where you will have options of archiving your data or any services that you want to back up. Back up Google has never been easier.

The application also allows you to select the format in which you want your data to be backed up. After backing up, Google will sort your data in one folder, which is downloadable and easily stored in a storage device like your hard disk. Back up Google is also flexible and simple to use.

Back up Google and restore Google Chrome and settings

Back up Google Chrome setting is important. You will never lose any personal information, passwords, and favorite pages. Whenever you are formatting your computer, make sure you back up your Chrome settings before the formatting process.

You can back up your Google Chrome setting by enabling synchronization

Here, you can back up your entire chrome settings including bookmarks, extensions, passwords, tabs, webpages and other customizations by simply signing in to your Google account. If you sign into your Google account, Google Chrome will update your back ups to your account and you can access them anywhere, and at anytime. As a security measure, don’t log into your Google account when using public computers. This will expose your details to people who you do not know, and they might have bad intentions of hacking your personal details. Moreover, they could delete any stored information making it virtually impossible to retrieve it.

Signing into your Google account

For successful account restoration, follow the steps given below.

Click the square shaped icon which has three stripes on the upper right side of your Google chrome.

Fill in your details in the open window and save.

Click okay and you will automatically be signed into your Google account.

Conclusion

It’s important to save your data after every update of your information. You never know what will happen, and in most cases you will need the information in future. Don’t overlook this simple habit. Backing up Google is the safest way to go.

Google Drive has been around for a while now. It’s a great tool for making backups of. your files online. You can also share files with others seamlessly and allows you to work on the same files with different computers.

While it is not a great option for backing up your whole hard disk, it is a great choice for those who want to back up their most important files automatically.

Back Up Google – What You Need

If you want to use Google Drive, you must first download and intall the app into your PC. This is fairly easy to do as you will only have to follow prompt after you have hit the download button.

During installation, you will be required to select a folder for your files. You can opt for the default provided or create your own. The sync utility of Google Drive works with this folder. This means that you will have to transfer all the files you want to back up here. This folder acts as a tow way conduit. Any file saved here will be automatically backed up online. Also, any file uploaded to Google drive directly will be synced back to the folder.

Back Up Google Drive- Using Google Drive To Backup Data

You can use Google Drive in two ways:

This method involves creating copies of the files you want to back up and saving them to the Google Drive Folder. Once this is done, the files will sync to drive.google.com. You need to be connected to the internet for this to happen. This method will require you to keep making copies of any files you want to back up in order to move them to the Google Drive folder. However, it will allow you to keep your file system intact.

This is probably the easiest and most convenient way to back up your files. Nevertheless, it will require that you reorganize your files. Instead of making copies of the files you want to back up, you will simply move the folders containing the files to the Google Drive folder. This way, backups will be made automatically any time you save a file in that folder.

Whatever method you choose, you can rest assured that your files will be safe and you can retrieve them whenever you want. Should you lose your computer or format your hard disk, you will only have to install Google Drive to replace your files.

By default, Google is the preferred search engine for Android devices and generally Google products sync perfectly with the Android operating system. As you make use of your Android device, it is possible to willingly and unwillingly delete an item on your Android device and need it later. Because of the instant sync setting, the data deleted on Android devices is also deleted from the user’s web account. While losing some data from your Android device may not be devastating, there are instances when you lose crucial data such as a contact or business file. Worse still, is the possibility that your Android device may at one time be completely wiped out.

Fortunately, Google has backup services in place for such disasters. It is important to bear in mind that these backups are not perfect. Even so, they offer the users a bit of security should anything happen.

Google backup and restore – Google contacts backup

Google contacts come with an easy to use backup option. What Google contact backup allows the user to do is restore their contacts exactly as they were at the time of the loss. Therefore, in case the user accidentally deletes a contact from their contacts, restoring is only a few clicks away.

To restore lost contacts:

Navigate and login to your Gmail account and go to Google contacts.

Go to the ‘more’ tab and find the ‘restore contact’ option.

From the pop-up window, there are a number of options to choose from. These options allow you to restore the contact as it was ten minutes ago or 30 days ago, and many more time options. Choose your most preferred restoring time.

Once the contact is restored to your Google contacts, it will automatically sync with your Android phone.

Google backup and restore – Backing up information

One of the hardest tasks you can undertake is trying to get things back as they were arranged in your Android device after you reset the device. For different reasons, one might need to completely erase data from the Android device or the data may accidentally be erased.

When this happens, the first thing you should do is login into your Google account. If you have allowed Google to automatically save your information and settings since when you first got the device, you will be able to get the information from your Google account.

If you have not yet set your account to back up your data, you can do so from your mobile device’s settings tab under privacy options where you find ‘back up my data’ option.

For most people, Google Drive is simply an efficient way of sharing data or offering the ability to work on a file from different computers. What most people do not know is that Google Drive can also be used as a cost effective way of backing-up files. Most people who know about Google Drive backup system wonder if it is a viable method of saving files.

Google Drive is actually a great way to back up your files even though it cannot be used for cloning the entire hard drive. Nevertheless, it is highly effective when it comes to preserving important data.

Backup Google Drive – Use Google Drive to backup your data

To be able to use Google Drive for backing up data, you will require a desktop sync utility. The utility you use should have the ability to add a special folder to your computer’s hard drive – it works as a two-way conduit. Any folders or files placed in this sync utility will sync in Google Drive while the files or folders added to Google Drive will sync back to the special folder on the computer.

Backup Google – How to use Google Drive to backup data

There are two possible ways of using Google Drive to back up your folders and files:

Method 1:

Create a copy of the files you want to back up and then move these copies to the Google Drive folder. These copies will sync to drive.google.com once the computer is connected to the internet. The advantage of this method is the fact that it does not alter the way you use folders in your system. The only disadvantage is the fact that you will have to make copies to be able to move them to the Google Drive folder for backing up.

Method 2:

The other way to back-up your files on Google Drive is to move the files you want to save directly into the hard drive folder. It is possible to move entire folders to the drive folder. The benefit of this method is the fact that each file saved automatically syncs to drive.google.com. The disadvantage of this method is that moving files directly to the Google Drive folder may not align with the way you organize your files and folders in your computer.

Whichever method you use, Google Drive is an ideal way of backing up important data.

Google Backup Transport is a mechanism that Android applications and system (including 3rd party apps) use to restore your data in Cloud. This will for instance, make it easy for you to restore a game’s progress should you move to a different device.

What Is Cloud And Why Is It Used?

Gone are the days when people would store all heir important data in floppy disks as the safest option for data storage. In this high-tech world, people prefer the cloud as the safest backup plan. Cloud storage ensures that all important data is available to you at any given time. You can access that information from any device including a desktop computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone.

When you save information in the cloud, it is stored both in your device and in some data center located somewhere in the world. To access that file, you simply go online and retrieve that information. This kind of storage comes with many advantages even for Google users. One of the biggest benefits is that you will always have that information even if you lose your device.

Advantages of cloud as a backup transport for Google and why you should use it

Here is a look at some of the major advantages of using cloud storage as Google’s backup solution:

It is affordable: If you own a small business, chances are that you are running on a limited IT budget. If Google is your email service provider of choice, you know that it does not come with a backup service. So, take the initiative and store your information in The Cloud for a reasonable annual fee.

Access information anywhere and at anytime: Since Google also uses Cloud; you are able to access your Google account from any place and at any time. This is of course, as long as you have an internet connection.

Simple to use: Google is a service provider that has millions of users from all over the globe. As such, it cannot handle a complex backup solution especially when it comes to backing up information for millions of people. With cloud, you just click and files are easily stored and recovered.

It is not manual: Most companies that are not in the habit of backing up their data claim that there is no time. Backing up information in the cloud does not need extra time because the files in your computer are automatically backed up in cloud and continuously.

Google cloud print is Google’s cloud printing solution. Google has come a long way in terms of trying to make it easy for its users to print on the go from their Android devices using the new cloud print app available in Google play. The first iteration you notice on this app is that it is very easy to use, just like the original one. However, it only delivers the barebones of what is to be printed from the tablet or phone. Notably, some key features for advanced users are missing like the ability to share device management features like printers.

How Google Cloud print works

If you have never used cloud print, it is simply a service that enables users to send print jobs from any location to any printer connected to the sender’s Google account as long as there is an internet connection. Sending cloud print docs to PCs and Macs is quite easy since the user only needs Google chrome and a printer. Alternatively, the user can make use of a cloud print enabled printer from companies like Hewlett-Packard or Dell.

To be able to use a printer that is not cloud print enabled, you simply:

Enter ‘chrome settings’ in the chrome address bar.

Click on ‘show advanced settings’ on the page’s bottom end.

Find ‘Google cloud print’ and activate the function.

When Google cloud print was first reviewed a few years ago, it only offered support for printing .DOC and PDF format documents from the Gmail web interface. However, things have since changed and it is now possible to print almost any file format using Google cloud print. This led third party developers to create apps that enable mobile users to print more documents in Google services or web using the cloud printer. For Android devices, the cloud print app by Paulo Fernandes is the most notable 3rd party solution available.

Using the Google cloud print app

Using the Google cloud printing app is quite easy and straightforward. You simply start the application and it will automatically add connected Google accounts on the device. This enables you to see all previous print jobs. Printing within the app can be done by simply tapping on the printer icon. This will cause all apps available for cloud print to be displayed where you choose the file to print. Cloud print has the ability to list apps in the device with printable files like Dropbox, Box, Android gallery app as well as SkyDrive.

Did you know that there is a way of backing up your pictures to Google+? You can do this by simply turning on the Auto Backup feature. With this feature, you can even backup all the pictures you took with the camera of your mobile device, photos saved on other apps such as Hangouts and WhatsApp, and photos you have downloaded. The best part is that all the photos that have been automatically backed up are private. So, you are the only one who could choose whether to share them or not.

Google Backup Pictures – How to switch auto-backup off and on

From an Android app

Open the app for Photos

Touch or click on this icon then click on “Settings”

Open “Auto Backup” then switch it off or on depending on what you want.

From a computer and mobile browser If your photos are on a computer and you want to back them up, you can do so via the Google+ Photo App for Chromebooks or via the Auto backup for PC/desktop. It is, however, not possible for you to backup pictures using a mobile browser. Via iOS App Backing up your pictures via an iOS app is also fairly easy.

Open Google+ and click on the menu icon ()

Click to open the gear icon () and at the top right-hand side you will see the option for Photos and Camera.

Switch on the Auto Backup feature.

If a Window pops up prompting you for access to pictures in you device, click “OK”

More information on Auto Backup

You are probably wondering how much it will cost you to backup your pictures. You can backup an unlimited number of pictures (standard sized) without paying a dime. Standard size refers to pictures that have 2048 pixels on the longest edge or less. It can also mean videos that are fifteen minutes long with 1080p resolution. If your Backup settings have been set to “Full Size”, pictures that are bigger than 2048px and videos longer than fifteen and/or have been saves at a higher resolution that 1080p will count against the storage quota for your Google Drive. In other words, you will be required pay a small amount of money should your storage capacity exceed the required size for free storage. There are times when you might even run out of storage because the pictures you want to store are larger than the standard size requirement. You will also have to pay a small price for extra storage.

Google is a search giant that is used by people all over the world. Apart from the powerful search engine, Google also offers a number of different services, and one of these services is the Google cloud service. This service allows users to backup important data in the Google drive. Google offers its users 15GB worth of free storage. This storage space can be used across different Google services like Google+, Gmail and Google drive among other services. For people who do not use other Google services, they can make use of the 15GB storage space for Google cloud drive.

More about Google cloud storage space

While for some people 15GB worth of space is quite a lot, to can get used up pretty fast for other people. This is especially if the user uses Google services extensively as this can drastically reduce the amount of storage space available for the user on the Google drive. For this reas0on, Google rolled out additional free storage space in the Google cloud as a way of attracting more users. However, there are a few exceptions to the additional free storage space. This extra free space is only available for people who use Google servicers extensively. Even so, people who use Google service occasionally have the option of purchasing additional space on the google cloud. The best thing about buying Google cloud space is that Google storage space is actually one of the cheapest cloud storage services available.

How you can get more free Google cloud storage

As mentioned above, it is possible to get additional free storage space on Google cloud. However, to be eligible for this additional free space, you will need one of the following gadgets:

Chromebook – Google will give 100GB worth of storage cloud space to anyone who owns a Chromebook. After the offer has been redeemed, the free cloud storage can be used for only two years before it becomes invalid while it lasts for three years on Chromebook Pixel.

The HTC One M8 – anyone who owns a HTC One M8 phone gets 50GB extra cloud storage space for two years. To get this offer, users have to download the Google drive app to their HTC One M8 phones and login in using their Google account details.

For older HTC phones, users can update the phones to sense 5.5 to be able to redeem 25GB free Google drive storage space.

The free storage space offers keep changing – it is advisable to be on the lookout for new offers.

If you have contacts in your Google account and would like to centralize them across all your accounts, you can do so via Google Backup Contacts. This method is robust as compared to other address book apps as it allows you to enter contacts information in a detailed manner. This is inclusive of your contact’s birthday dates. But is it necessary for you to backup your Google contacts?

Like all other programs, Google Contacts does not have immunity against data loss. Even as you make good use of its other amazing features, you should look out for weak spots that might lead to loss of data.

Google Backup Contacts - Why You Should Backup Your Google Contacts

Import contacts: If you have contacts that are scattered in different devices like in your phone, others on your PC while you have written others in a notebook, it is a good idea to have them all in one place. Google Contacts provide the best platform for this. However, there is possibility of experiencing a sync error as you import your contacts. This might lead to loss of some contacts and you may end up with fewer contacts than you had in the first place. That is why you need a backup option.

Groups re-assigning: If you have group contacts and would like to move some contacts to another group you can easily do so. However, you may decide to delete the contact from the first group and this might actually delete the contact completely. If you had not backed up that contact elsewhere, you may end up with some trouble.

Contacts merging: If you have just realized that most of your contacts have multiple entries, chances are that you want to clear them up. That way, you will be left with one version of each contact. Merging is mostly the solution but it is somewhat tricky and does not always pan out as planned. You may remove duplicates and later find out that you only have very few contacts. If you had backup, you would have just deleted all contacts and retrieved them from your backup.

Deleting by accident: The ubiquitous data loss scourge is man’s error. It is actually easy to select a contact then delete it only to realize that you did not want to delete it. This happens more often when your mind is preoccupied or you are in a rush. So what do you do? Go for the contacts you had backed up.

These days, almost everyone owns a smartphone. There are numerous models in the market today with most of them running the Android operating system. Since Android is a product from Google, it gets to offer its users services from Google including Google chrome browser and Google services. One of the ways Android smartphones are used today is in capturing special moments using the inbuilt cameras. When photos are taken using the phone’s camera, they are automatically stored in the phone’s memory. This means that these photos can easily be lost should the memory card get lost or if the user loses the phone, or worse still it crashes. For this reason, Google came up with the Google photo backup tool which comes as part of the Google+ service. This gives Android users an easy way of ensuring they keep their photos safe.

Google backup photos – How to use the Google photo backup tool

This tool is not exclusive to Android users, but also can also be used by iOS users. It offers users a platform where they can create backups for the photos they take using their mobile devices. Google photo auto backup offers the ability to automatically backup photos on Google+.

On the Android device, it is possible to turn the photo backup tool option on and off from the photo application’s menu button. Here, you will find the settings tab where the auto backup function is available. You can choose to switch it on or off. Once you turn the application on, you can choose the type of images you want backed up and remember to set the backup option only for Wi-Fi connection.

Google backup photos – Disabling the function

A big disadvantage of using Google + photo backup tool is that the photos are saved in the Google cloud. This means that any cloud hacks can place your images in the hands of the wrong people. For this reason, it is important to manage the pictures you backup.

If you use your phone’s camera to take some private photos, it is best to avoid uploading these photos to the Google cloud. To stop backup, simply go to the photo backup tool from your app menu and go to the settings tab. Here, you will find auto backup section where you can choose to stop the backing up of photos. It is also possible to access the photos that were uploaded and delete them if you do not want them to be accessible to other people.
